Advantages

The E5-575-33BM from Acer Aspire is something that works great for its price. It is considered the best laptop at its price point by a lot of tech folks. It bears the same design elements of earlier Aspire models; however, it was provided with a few upgrades in terms of design and ergonomics.

The unit includes an exterior chassis in durable plastic material and it has an overall minimalistic feel to it. It has both a glossy and matte finish which provides a solid industrial look to the whole ensemble.

The model has a 15.6-inch screen which includes a complete high-definition display by means of the brand’s Colorblast technology. It has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels which is impressive for a budget model.

In terms of performance, the model is blessed with advanced processor technology. It has the updated Intel Core i3, which is a better version of the well-known 6100U model. The current Kaby Lake processor includes 2 cores and a base frequency of 2.4 GHz and 3 megabytes SmartCache.

The setup makes it a great CPU to use for manageable, undemanding daily chores in the office or at home. Its performance can be summed up as something that stands between the performance of the i5 mobile processors and the Celeron range.

It has a general system memory at 4 GB with DDR4 RAM; this makes for a better, improved transfer speed. Now you won’t have to fret over multitasking since the unit will run fast. However, if you want a faster performance, you can always expand it; you can upgrade its memory up to 16 GB of RAM if you prefer.

It has sufficient storage space for a beginner notebook and the unit includes a 1 TB 5400 RPM hard disk drive which is enough to contain your whole media compilation from photos to MP3s and movies. While it is not as quick as an SSD, you can change the HDD with a 2.5-inch solid state hard drive.

When it comes to interface options, it has the regular 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 port) for your wired network connectivity.

It has a USB 3.1 Type C lightning port for uninterrupted data transfers by means of a mobile phone or quicker transmission of files. For peripherals and allocating storage mediums, you can use the USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports. It also includes 1 HDMI port that supports HDCP.

The unit weighs 5.3 lbs. so it is not the lightest laptop which you can comfortably take with you while traveling. It does have a sizable 6-cell 2800mAh Li-ion battery pack that can last 12 hours on a full charge.

Disadvantages

The E5-575-33BM includes the Intel HD graphics 620. Casual gaming is alright, but it cannot handle high-end games well. While it does have an FHD display within, it has no IPS panel though so this limits the viewing angles and brightness of colors.

Verdict

In general, the Acer Aspire E5-575-33BM is an excellent beginner laptop that includes improved components that are impressive for its price. It has lots of beneficial features and options so you can breeze through your work or any everyday task at home or school. So is this the best laptop under $500? Not for gaming, but definitely for daily, easy, and manageable electronic tasks.
